This week sees some outstanding releases from artists of all genres. Cigarettes After Sex have released their enigmatic sophomore LP, Cry, James Blunt’s arena filling Once Upon A Mind is out following last week’s single, Monster, and Dry Cleaning give us a double whammy with EP’s Sweet Princess and Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks merged into one release.

James Blunt – Once Upon A Mind

After teasing his sixth LP across 2019 with singles Cold, Champions, I Told You and Monsters; James Blunt is back with brilliant album Once Upon A Mind. The heartfelt Monsters encapsulates what Blunt has continued to do since 2004 debut Back To Bedlam, but with a mature twang instead of melancholy.

Cigarettes After Sex – Cry

Cigarettes After Sex’s allure is one that keeps their sound exciting and fresh. Ghostly vocals cascade through the Texas band’s enigmatic sophomore, Cry. Following their 2017 eponymous debut was always going to be tricky, but Cigarettes After Sex have once again produced a masterpiece.

Fink - Bloom Innocent

Fin Greenall - aka Fink, returns with new record Bloom Innocent. His first LP in two years is an eerie collection of eight tense, building tracks with looming vocals and perfectly executed elongated instrumentals.

Dry Cleaning – Sweet Princess/Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks

A unique blend of spoken word vocals and punk-esque music, Dry Cleaning’s sound is impossible to pigeonhole. They have compiled August’s Sweet Princess EP and new EP, Boundary Road Snacks and Drinks, on one record to showcase their fantastic sound with twice as much impact.

JP Cooper – The Reason Why

Teaming up with Stefflon don and Banx & Ranx, JP Cooper is back with more soulful harmonies and sharp lyricism. This collaboration complements each artist elegantly and JP Cooper’s blissful vocals intertwine perfectly with Stefflon Don’s verses.

Easy Life – Nice Guys

Easy Life continue to show why they are one of the most exciting acts in the UK right now. With lashings of indie-pop hallmarks combined with hip-hop underpinnings, Nice Guys will be a welcome addition to their already stunning live show.

Matt Maltese – Jupiter

Giving another teaser ahead of new LP, Krystal, Matt Maltese has offered new single ‘Jupiter.’ With the massively infectious repetition of “Jupiter couldn’t keep me from you,” Maltese continues his hopeless romantic approach to his songwriting – and we simply cannot get enough of it.

Gabrielle Aplin – Like You Say You Do

Gabrielle Aplin’s latest track from upcoming LP, Dear Happy, comes in the form of Like You Say You Do. The upbeat, self-care anthem is a million miles from 2013 debut English Rain, but she continues to create infectious tracks that appeal to the masses.

Dylan – Purple (EP)

In an interview with Lock, Dylan explains “the EP is called Purple because it is a very dark and mysterious colour, yet also has a vibrancy and power to it” and it is clear to see why. Five stunning tracks in under 20 minutes showcase her haunting vocals and broad soundscapes.
